Using Edgecam has slashed programming time by at least 30% for a specialist shoe component manufacturer, meaning they can meet the precision, speed and quality demanded by their marketplace.
Tecpol, based at Campo Bom-RS, in Brazil, manufactures injected insoles and components for the agriculture, leather and footwear industries. Each product is unique, ensuring innovation and quality for their customers.
Set a goal to achieve precision, speed and quality for their manufacturing process of injected insoles, they chose the market-leading Edgecam CAM system to ensure all their targets were met. Their injected insole is an innovative product that integrates the steel shank, the EVA foam, the plant and the skeleton of the shoe into one piece.
Tecpol programmer Sandro André Braun says they previously used a different CAM system to program their manufacturing machines. “But that software had many limitations, so we changed to Edgecam, knowing it had more features for programming and machining. With Edgecam we had at least 30% reduction in programming time.”
Amongst Edgecam’s features which ensure Tecpol’s injected insole constantly meets their customers’ requirements, are its advanced Roughing and Rest Roughing machining cycles. Edgecam’s roughing cycle incorporates Rest Roughing, where stock is automatically defined by the preceding roughing cycle. The Rest Roughing strategy determines where material remains unmachined because the tool could not access those areas during the previous machining operation. The Rest Roughing operation generates a tool path for machining those areas, and uses a tool of smaller diameter than was used in the previous roughing cycle.
Sandro André Braun says they also make full use of Edgecam’s IGES Healing facility, which corrects IGES files that could come with their geometry damaged, or with gaps from other CAD systems. “Before we started using Edgecam with the IGES Healing module we had many damaged or missing surfaces. Today this problem is solved.”
Edgecam’s Brazilian reseller, SKA, has formed a close working relationship with Tecpol to ensure the manufacturer has full technical support and training, as well as receiving the twice-yearly updates of the software. Tecpol director Hamilton Dinarte says: “We chose SKA because, in a competitive market, we need to take fewer risks. SKA is a solid company that provides high quality support and services as well as reliable software that is constantly being updated.”
Also, SKA provided Tecpol with training in how to fully utilise Edgecam. “We received important tips in how to increase the productivity of our machinery, and today it is easy to see the improvement in the process of our programming,” says Hamilton Dinarte.
